Fareham U15s v Purbrook U15s 31 May 2002

Now It's Another One, Just Like The Other One.

(And The One Before.)

Purbrook travelled to Fareham on Friday determined to prove that the defeats against Locks Heath and Rowner were just two one-offs and that lightning doesn't strike thrice.

Several thunderbolts later they returned to Purbrook wondering if "determined" was a bit of an exaggeration.

Fareham won the toss and put Purbrook into bat. Sean Figgins (19) and Sam Pearce (25) immediately took control and started flaying Fareham to all parts of the ground. (Sound familiar?). They then got complacent and gave their wickets away without pushing home their advantage. (Now that sounds familiar!).

Pubrook's middle order, which was very strong on paper, then skipped the dominant stage and went straight to the careless stage as Hari Haran, Matt Colban, Simon Bennet and Carl Marsh were all dismissed cheaply.

The inexperienced tail was then left to struggle through the rest of the overs, reaching 85 for 9.

J.Tucker (4-8-2) and J.Webb (4-8-2) were the pick of the bowlers.

Purbrook then decided that the best way to distract attention from the sloppy batting would be to bowl even worse. They implemented this plan with real gusto. Sam Pearce (2-29-0) set the pace with Sean Figgins (4-30-2) and Simon Bennett (3-22-0) contributing wides and long-hops as required.

Needless to say the innings didn't last long. S.Clarke (32 no) and Extras (26no) made hay as Fareham reached 86 for 3 in the 9th over.

Will Sage made a solid debut behind the stumps.

Purbrook: Sean Figgins, Sam Pearce, Hari Haran, Simon Bennett, Ian Budd, Jared Carter, Matt Colban, James Harrison, Carl Marsh, Matt Burnett, Will Sage.
