U13s Get A Taste Of The Longer Game

Purbrook U13s travelled up to Andover on the bank holiday Monday to play in a 40-over friendly. For most of the Purbrook lads it was their first taste of 40 over cricket.

Purbrook batted first. Carl Marsh (5) and Ian Budd (7) looked solid enough until Marsh was bowled by Cheyne. J.Hadfield came on first change and his off-breaks were too much for the Purbrook lads. By the time he had taken 5 for 11 there wasn't much batting left.

Martin Raper struck a couple of nice boundaries on his way to 15. Lloyd Griffiths (8) Chris Harrison (6no) and Jack Hamson (4) took Purbrook on to 80 all out.

Purbrook only managed to use 22 of their 40 overs.

The lads all ate a hearty tea and game out to defend thir total.

C.Hadfield and O.Owen both reached 20 and retired, but apart from that Purbrook bowled and fielded quite creditably.

Jared Carter (6-2-14-1) and James Harrison (5.2-2-9-2) were the pick of the bowlers supported by Martin Raper (6-1-31-2) and Chris Harrison (5-0-24-1).

Andover reached 84 for 6 in the 24th over.

Purbrook: Carl Marsh, James Harrison, Chris Harrison, Martin Raper, Lawrence Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Ian Budd, Jared Carter, Mark Higginbottom, Jack Hamson, Lloyd Griffiths.
