Purbrook U16s v Hayling Island 25 November 2001

Ruthless Purbrook Savage Hayling Island

The outdoor match against Hayling Island in the Summer was probably the low point of Purbrook's season. The match should have been a tense bottom of the table clash. Instead, two Purbrook players failed to turn up and the rest batted appallingly as Hayling Island slaughtered Purbrook.

Purbrook had a point to prove.

Purbrook batted first and took charge from the first ball. There were 19 runs from the first over as Purbrook powered to 133 for 4. Sam Pearce (38no), Sean Figgins (16), Tom Jones (24) and Ben Thomas (27no) all struck hard and ran intelligently. Hari Haran (3) and Ben Jones (7) perished near the end as Purbrook strove for the last few runs.

Ben Jones (2-12-1) clean bowled Fawcett in the first over to set the tone of the reply. Sam Pearce (3-21-0) kept the pressure on and when Sean Figgins (3-10-3) began to take wickets, Hayling crumbled to 72 all out.

Tom Jones (2-25-0) and Hari Haran (1-4-1) were the other bowlers. Ben Thomas and Sean Figgins took the catches.

C.Hind (25) was the pick of the Hayling batsmen.

Purbrook 24 points, Hayling Island 5 points.

Purbrook: Sean Figgins, Sam Pearce, Tom Jones, Ben Thomas, Ben Jons, Hari Haran.
